Housing

CEED has identified Housing/Home Ownership as key component in the restoration of inner city/urban communities. Housing or choosing where we live, is the core of our existence, and the purchase of a home is the single most important investment we make during our lives. A recent study by the Center for Housing Policy revealed that, nearly 13 million Americans live in severely dilapidated housing. Of these, 3 millions are moderate income families who work the equivalent of a full time job; CEED believes that meeting the needs of the poorly housed is a major community development issue. And by matching homes to potential Homeowners is one method to rebuild and revitalize declining neighborhoods and communities. CEED is instrumental in the economic revitalization and sustainability of communities through the following initiatives, starting with a pilot and demonstration phase.

Energy-Environment-Ecology housing/New Construction (models)

CEED is passionate about a revitalized Southwestern PA with little or no abandoned tax delinquent houses littering the property rolls, and ensure that community members we serve live in safe and affordable homes. CEED through the immigrant/refugee communities has identified hard working home builders/renovators coupled with a list of potential home buyers that are willing and ready to buy properties, provided the conditions are favorable.

New Construction & Infill Housing
CEED with development partners will embark on construction of new homes on multi-unit parcels, as well as infill of single family housing units as lot sizes permit. CEED will work with local governing bodies and communities to evaluate/incorporate large parcels within municipalities as potential sites for single family homes and multi-unit town homes. Adjacent lots within the neighborhood are evaluated and developed as Off Street Parking, Park-Lets (Green/Eco space) and Outdoor Recreation Facilities.

House Counseling/Home buyer Education Program.
Economic hardship, lack of knowledge of home ownership and lack of home management skills has forced many homeowners to lose their homes, and the increasing number of home foreclosures is a testament to this fact. In addition to providing people with Technical Assistance, Housing Maintenance/Financial Education, CEED will empower existing and intended new home owners in financial Management/budgeting and (Home Maintenance) sustainability skills necessary to maintain ownership.
